The band STANDBY STEREO is born in 2013, from other musical projects that had been developed by Pedro Macedo since 2009, in the studio of the Casa da Cultura e Juventude de Amarante (a youth centre in the town of Amarante), in Portugal.
Originally a band that mixed metalcore, post-hardcore and pop-punk, with English lyrics, the style changed after the departure of one co-vocalist in the beginning of 2015. At that moment, the band’s lineup ended up consisting of the same members of a previous project, “Azul Mental”, so they decided to revisit their past work, but keeping the new name to be more easily recognizable by the audiences. And so, the sound that identifies STANDBY STEREO ever since is the alternative rock, sung in Portuguese. Among the band’s main influences are Ornatos Violeta, Linda Martini, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Dinosaur Jr., Jeff Buckley, The Smashing Pumpkins and The Subways.
Nowadays, the band has Pedro Macedo on vocals and rhythm guitar, João Costa on lead guitar, Ricardo Rocha on bass and Zé Pedro Abreu on drums.
Mainly playing shows in bars and small events, the band had also the pleasure of sharing stages with huge artists of the Portuguese music scene, like Diogo Piçarra, Agir, Blaya and Putzgrilla.
The Summer of 2018 brought the recognition of having the band’s song “Condições Dos Termos” included in the TV series “Vidas Opostas”, on SIC channel network.
In November of the same year they release their first studio work, a 6-track EP named “Cartas Na Mesa”, which serves as a business card to showcase the multiple personalities that define the STANDBY STEREO sound, but always united by a very unique style, that bridges the British & North-American rock, and their Portuguese language.
As far as their plans for the futures go, they’re going to promote the “Cartas Na Mesa” EP with live shows filled with their contagious energy and enormous passion delivered to the audiences.
