Seattle-based singer/songwriter Joe Taylor has spent the last few years fronting hard-rock band Versus, who released their debut album in the spring of 2017 and toured with acts like Ryan Cabrera, Rookie of the Year, and Sparks the Rescue, among others. Inspired by artists ranging from Julien Baker and Noah Gundersen to Brand New, Taylor uses his music as an emotional outlet, aiming to put raw feelings on the line for fans to connect with and understand.
Everyone goes through hardships in life and this solo project is the platform Taylor has decided to use to talk about his. An advocate of mental health, Taylor sees the importance in working with suicide awareness and prevention organizations such as To Write Love On Her Arms and Golden Gate Bridge Suicide Prevention, as well as Survivors of Suicide which he has worked with alongside Versus, for when you’re feeling helpless and alone. He shares, “I created this project as another outlet for songs I’ve been writing and wanted to have more of a softer, emotional sound. I wrote these songs for anyone who is going through something that seems impossible and who can relate to the experiences that I sing about. Life sucks sometimes but it’s easier when you know that you’re not alone in your struggles.” In late 2017, Taylor debuted his first solo-track titled “Flagstaff” which touches on the difficulty of making a relationship work when one partner is struggling with severe depression. Just one of many topics he hopes to dive into with his solo music, Taylor plans on using this project to cope with his struggles, helping him deal with anxiety and inner demons while relating to others and helping them along the way.
