Artist Biography: After having crisscrossed Western Europe as guitarist of several grunge-influenced bands, Slow Bear began playing solo in the summer of 2014. This marked a return to songcraftship in the style of Scott Yoder, John Frusciante and Daniel Johnston, combined with 1920s and 1930s blues. On his debut release ‘Pale Morning Fades’ (December 2015, Dopey Sonofabitch Music) Slow Bear embraces the fuzzy sound of tape recorders and blends this with digital mixing techniques. The home recorded album features at times a lofi take on oldies pop, at other times dark psychedelic folk ballads. The record puts lyrical expression up front, featuring tales of war, abuse, violence and alienation in a magical-realistic universe.
While in 2016 Slow Bear has toured the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, which has brought him to such stages as Suikerrock (Be), De Kaaij Festival (Nl) and Krefeld Unplugged (De), he also recorded two, less lofi, full albums and a videoclip that are soon to be released.

About The Video: “Musician and director team up for message of peace”
Director David Van de Weyer and musician Slow Bear started 2017 on a positive note. Last week they released music video ‘Normandy and Me’ that holds an immediate call for peace, tolerance and respect towards every single life form. Leaving 2016 behind us, a year that might be considered a rather black page in history, both artists feel one should return to anticipating the future in a hopeful way.
‘Normandy and Me’ is not your typical music video. Image and sound interact in a poetical production of nearly 6 minutes. The clip shows how indiefolk-singer Slow Bear wanders around the landscape of the French Opal Coast, looking for a peace-symbol towering high above the cliffs. In Daveyer Audiovisual’s characteristic style, saturated colors and mystique lighting create a compelling meandering atmosphere. All this turns the Opal Coast, a favorite haven for tourists and amateur photographers, into a magical-realistic landscape where present, past and future merge.
The film contains direct references to past wars from the 19th and 20th century. The use of authentic props and historical footage links the current international socio-political context to events that gave rise to violence and terror in the past. Van de Weyer and Slow Bear do not want to point an accusing finger and are far from having any ideological ambitions. Peaceful resistance, openness and tolerance are the arrows they are throwing. Their goal: to stir the belief that the world can be restored in all its beauty, where freedom, equality and togetherness are not mere hollow phrases.
